Curiously is committed to safeguarding your privacy online. We have posted this privacy policy to help you understand how your personal information will be treated as you use Curiously.com. This policy may change from time to time, so please check back periodically.
Thank you for taking the time to read our privacy policy. Please be sure to also read our Terms and Conditions. Use of Curiously.com constitutes an agreement to the Terms and Conditions and acceptance of this Privacy Policy.
Curiously.com is owned and published by Curiously, Inc., a Delaware corporation.
Curiously's data collection and use policy regarding users of the site is set out in this policy. Curiously reserves the right to modify this policy as appropriate; please note the date of the most recent revision posted below the title.
The term "personally identifiable information" ("PII") means any information that can be used to identify or contact a specific individual, such as a name, address, telephone number or e-mail address. The term "aggregate information" means information that does not generally allow us to identify or contact a specific individual but describes a general category of information about visitors to the Site, such as demographics, or visitors using a particular browser to access the Site. The term "cookies" means small data files placed on your computer by a Web site so that the site can personalize the site and track personal site usage.
When you register as a User and set up a profile, we must collect certain PII. This information is stored on our systems, but no personally identifiable information is ever displayed in your public profile or included in any communication between Users sent via the website. This data will be used to contact users that have submitted information and to provide attribution for materials or information submitted and used on Curiously.com. Last names, phone numbers, and electronic mail addresses of people submitting material to our site will not be published. Curiously reserves the right to sell or disclose some personally identifiable information collected on our web site to third parties whose practices are not covered by this Privacy Policy (e.g., marketers, magazine publishers, retailers, participatory databases, and non-profit organizations) that want to market products and services to you. If we share personally identifiable information, we will provide you with an opportunity to opt out or block such uses. Any right of the third party to distribute, transfer, transmit, disclose or resell the information is prohibited.
We track the aggregate usage of Curiously.com. This data may include, but is not limited to, your Web browser, which Web site you visited before opening Curiously, and the Web site you link to as you leave our site. We also track which page within the site you visit and how long you spend at each page. This information can allow us to see what pages are the most valuable and interesting to our users and enables us to provide users with a richer and more useful experience on Curiously.com. While unlikely, this aggregate information can in some cases contain information that would enable Curiously to personally identify a specific individual.
"Cookies" are bits of data stored on your hard drive that allow us to recognize your computer and increase speed and functionality for the User. We recommend logging out of the website on shared computers after use. If you configure your browser to reject cookies, you may not be able to access all portions of the website.
Curiously uses a tool called "Google Analytics" to collect information about use of this site. Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit this site, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other sites they used prior to coming to this site. We use the information we get from Google Analytics only to improve our services. Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit this site, rather than your name or other identifying information. We do not combine the information collected through the use of Google Analytics with personally identifiable information. Although Google Analytics plants a permanent cookie on your web browser to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit this site, the cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Google's ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to this site is restricted by the Google Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. You can prevent Google Analytics from recognizing you on return visits to this site by disabling cookies on your browser, however, you may not be able to access all portions of the website.
If you open a profile with Curiously, we will collect the following information from you: name, gender, age, sexual preference, e-mail address, and location (city, state). When setting up your profile, you will have the opportunity to select a user name of your choice. You are strongly encouraged NOT to use your last name, address, or any other personally identifiable information in your user name. A portion of this information (gender, age, sexual preference and location (city, state)) will be made available to other users to help identify matches between users. Last names will not be published by Curiously unless you use your last name as part of your user name, which is not recommended.
As part of your profile, you will have the opportunity to post photographs. Note that such photographs will be available for viewing by all users of the web site and possibly to the general public on certain pages of the web site. Accordingly, all photographs posted should comply with the requirements of the Curiously Terms and Conditions.
You have the option to deactivate your profile at any time which will remove it from public view on our system. To do so, please visit the Settings page of the site. Following deactivation of your profile, you will have the option to reactivate your account at a later time.
If you would like to permanently delete your account please visit the Settings page of the site. When you delete your account, it is deleted in a manner similar to emptying the recycle bin on a computer. However, you understand that removed content may remain in our database or persist in backup copies (but will not be available to others).
The Curiously web site is not intended for use by those under the age of 18. The privacy and protection of children is very important to us. With this in mind, we do not allow anyone under the age of 18 to submit information to our site. Should we become aware that someone under the age of 18 has set up a profile, that profile will be deleted.

Such Linked Sites contain information created, published, maintained, or otherwise posted by institutions or organizations independent of Curiously. Curiously does not endorse, approve, certify or control these Linked Sites and does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, efficacy, timeliness or correct sequencing of information that they contain. Curiously's Privacy Policy does not apply to these Linked Sites. The privacy policies of these Linked Sites may differ from Curiously's, and you should review their policies before accessing them and/or submitting information.
Curiously reserves the right to use information provided by you and collect information about your activities on the web site in order to deliver tailored and targeted advertisements to you during your use of the web site. Curiously has no control over, nor does it bear any of the responsibility for the privacy policies and/or content of any sites or advertisers linked to or on Curiously's web site, or the cookies these sites might set in your browser.

You understand and agree that Spotify's, Facebook's or other third parties' use of information they collect from you is governed by their privacy policies, which we encourage you to review. If we are required by law to disclose certain information to local, state, federal, national or international government or law enforcement authorities, we will do so. We will also disclose information to third parties as necessary in order to comply with applicable laws and regulations. In addition, Curiously may share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities or suspected fraud, or enforce or apply Curiously's agreements.
Curiously reserves the right to change this Privacy Policy in order to address future developments of Curiously.com, or industry or legal changes.
